President Joe Biden attended the NATO summit and did not meet with Greek Prime Minister Mitsotakis. Biden paid homage to the NATO alliance and asserted that NATO will protect all of its members. The fact remains however that Greece finds itself as the target of Turkish aggression, and NATO has absolutely refused to intervene on behalf of Greece.

Biden’s silence on Turkish aggression against Greece says much. Despite promises made to the Greek American community, Biden has no intention of supporting Greece. Being in NATO has never been to the benefit of Greece, and is in fact a liability and an obstacle to Greek independence and sovereignty. It should be remembered that the Greek community of Constantinople was ethnically cleansed from Turkey during the 1950’s and 1960’s without any protest or action by NATO.

NATO cannot be considered a defensive alliance. In 1974, NATO member Turkey invaded Cyprus which is not a member of NATO. In 1999, NATO waged an aggressive bombing campaign against Serbia for three months. The targets in Serbia were civilian targets and Serbia was forced to give up the province of Kosovo which was followed by the ethnic cleansing of the Serbian Christian population.

In 1998, Poland, Hungary, and the Czeck Republic joined NATO. A gradual expansion of NATO toward the Russian border began. In no way can NATO’s expansion be considered a defensive act. NATO is a war mongering alliance that should have been dissolved when its original purpose of countering the Soviet Union and the Warsaw Pact was fulfilled.

NATO stands in the way of Greek independence and sovereignty. Membership in NATO has not only not protected Greece from Turkish aggression, it has blocked Greece from forming alliances with countries outside NATO that might be in Greece’s interests. For example, last fall the Russians expressed support for the right of Greece to extend its nautical miles in the Aegean Sea.

Furthermore, Russia condemned the Turkish plan to open the beach of Varosha in occupied Cyprus to Turkish colonists. A Greek-Russian alliance could be in the interests of Athens but will not happen because Greece is part of NATO which is nothing more than the military arm of the American-European empire supported by liberals like Biden and neoconservatives in the Republican Party.

Greece and Cyprus presently stand against Turkey alone. The failure of Greek leaders to pursue a genuine independent foreign policy could prove destructive for Greece over the long term. Plans for an American Empire and war mongering are not to the benefit of Greece.

In a new budget proposal, the Biden administration has proceeded to eradicate the use of the term “mothers” and has replaced it with the term “birthing people”. This is indicative of the extent to which the Democratic Party has been completely taken over by the transgender lobby. Lunatic left wing organizations such as Planned Parenthood have praised the Biden administration since they believe that “cisgendered” women alone do not give birth.

Those of us who live in reality understand that if a person is capable of giving birth then that person is a woman. Women who give birth are mothers. The trans movement is now declaring war on language in order to make words conform to their delusional beliefs.

Joe Biden is proving to be an utterly contemptible President. It is disgraceful that this man is taking the lunatic views of the most extreme elements of the political left and attempting to shove them down the throats of the American people. Joe Biden and the Democratic Party are waging war against biological reality, as well as biblical truth.

There are problems with some aspects of the Republican Party agenda, but the fact of the matter is the Democrats are dangerous because they are taking the far out beliefs of the trans activists who make up less than one percent of the population in America and are forcing them on the rest of us. This is not going to stop anytime soon.

In 2008, news media reported on the infamous “pregnant man”. This was a woman who “transitioned” into a man and became pregnant. In 2015, Time Magazine ran an article written by a woman about her “pregnant brother”. This was the point of no return. Normal thinking people would have realized that people who get pregnant are women.

The ideologues on the left however decided that the ability to get pregnant and give birth matters not if a woman decides she is really a man. This is the most extreme form of narcissism. When the President took office in January he signed the “equality act” which will permit boys to play in girls sports and to use girls locker rooms, restrooms, and showers.

For reasons of morality, propriety, and safety male and female students have traditionally used separate locker rooms and restrooms. Joe Biden and the Democrats have made it clear they have no use for traditional morality of any kind. The administration has declared war on Christian faith and morality.

From my standpoint as a Greek Orthodox Christian, voting for the Democratic Party at this time completely contradicts Christian morality and faith. At worst, if I as a Greek Orthodox Christian had voted Democratic, I would have served as an enabler to the future persecution of Christianity in America. The Trans movement has no tolerance or patience for anyone who disagrees with its war on women and motherhood. The Biden administration is firmly committed to this lunatic movement.

Christians and other normal people of different faiths must refuse to use the terminology that the Biden administration is attempting to impose on the whole of American society. There must be a point in which the madness ceases. The starting point for Christians in America who are interested in addressing this lunacy is to recognize that social activists who control the Democratic Party are the pagans and idolaters of the present era.

Hagia Sophia: In poor condition one year after Church converted into a mosque

Ten months after Hagia Sophia of Constantinople was converted into a Mosque, news reports are surfacing of the terrible condition in which Saint Justinian’s Church is in. There is dust throughout the whole Church, knobs are broken, and cables are hanging throughout the Cathedral. President Erdogan’s promises regarding Hagia Sophia have obviously not been kept.

Once Hagia Sophia was converted into a Mosque, it was easy to predict that the Church would be altered and would not be protected. President Erdogan is a fanatic and was unlikely to recognize the significance of Hagia Sophia for either Christians or for secular interests who were interested in the preservation of the Great Church. UNESCO and the various secular interests waited much too long to speak to the Turkish government about Hagia Sophia.

The Greek Government and the Orthodox Church of Greece also waited much too long to make international appeals for Hagia Sophia. By the time any of them began protesting, the Turkish government had been fully committed to the conversion of the Great Church. The question now is what comes next?

It is is crucial that UNESCO fulfills commitments pledged to examine Hagia Sophia and to document the condition of the Great Church and any and all damage done to this remarkable Christian edifice. The Turkish government can do as it wishes regarding Hagia Sophia as no one at this point can do anything about it. However, Turkey should be condemned internationally and the Erdogan government should be treated as a pariah government.

UNESCO and various academics and related organizations should be willing to condemn Turkey. Credit should be given to secular Turkish officials who for nearly eighty five years were responsible for the upkeep of Hagia Sophia. At least they preserved the iconography and the building.

It is obvious that the Erdogan government took Hagia Sophia from the more rational and responsible officials of the Turkish Ministry of Culture and gave them to the ignorant followers of Erdogan. This is utterly contemptible and worthy of international condemnation. It is also a sign of darker things to come from the Erdogan government in the realms of external aggression against neighboring countries such as Greece.

Representative Elizabeth Cheney is having a difficult time of it these days with the Republicans attempting to remove her as the third ranking Republican in the House of Representatives. It is impossible to sympathize with her as she shares the views of her father Dick Cheney. If there is anything that can be learned from Greece, it is that political dynasties bring harm to a country. Current Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis is an exception considering how well he is running the country.

Donald Trump has managed to maintain a high degree of influence within the Republican Party. That in itself is good. The problem however is he is still promoting conspiracy theories about winning the election which is not the case. In order to build a movement, the former President needs to abandon this immature behavior and begin building a program at the intellectual level.

Despite some misgivings about Trump at the present time, it is delightful to see Elizabeth Cheney squirm. Yes, Donald Trump acted badly in January when he failed to discourage the worst elements in his camp from attacking the capital. The fact is however, that Dick Cheney did much worse than that crowd at the capital.

Dick Cheney brought the neocons into the Bush administration. Donald Rumsfeld, Paul Wolfowitz, and others were his guys. The team that conceived the Iraq war was put together by Cheney. It helped that President Bush was a profoundly ignorant man totally unqualified for the Presidency.

The war on Iraq brought havoc and destruction. It brought about a civil war between Sunnis and Shi’ites. It opened the door for “Al Qaida in Mesopotamia” which was the forerunner to the Islamic State. It was this organization that conceived the horrors of beheading innocent people. The rise of the Islamic State proceeded with the practice of genocide against Shi’ites, Christians, and Yazidis.

Syria was the sequel to the Iraq war and is the sole responsibility of President Barack Obama. However, without the destabilization of Iraq there may never have been conflict in Syria and so everything that has come to pass in the Middle East is on Bush and Cheney. It was also Cheney’s neocons who conceived of the torture and abuse at the prison of Abu Ghraib.

The sadistic torture and sexual humiliation of Iraqi prisoners was a moral disgrace and indicative of the psychopathic tendencies of the Bush-Cheney foreign policy team. In addition to the horrors of Abu Ghraib, the subsequent refugee crises (Iraqi and Syrian) that has flooded Europe is the responsibility of the Bush-Cheney administration.

It was under the Bush-Cheney administration that the roots of the conflict with Russia can be laid. The Russians were initially invited to participate in the invasion of Iraq. They declined to do so and were never forgiven by the Bush administration. The Bush-Cheney administration cynically invited other countries to participate in the Iraq invasions. They had no inclination to assign any other country real responsibilities.

The Bush-Cheney administration wanted to pretend that the Iraq war was an international coalition and could deny responsibility if things went badly as they did. The Bush family has no business seeking political power considering the legacy it left in Iraq. The Cheney family needs to be gone as well.

It is irrelevant if Elizabeth Cheney is right or wrong in voting to impeach Trump. What matters more is that she shared her father’s deranged foreign policy views. Granted, the attack on the capital in January was ugly, stupid, and an expression of barbarism. It was criminal activity that is being investigated and the participants will be prosecuted (rightfully so).

The destruction that Dick Cheney left in Iraq and throughout the Middle East and Europe that happened as a result of the 2003 invasion was much more hideous and evil than what took place at the capital. The last thing America needs is a reemergence of the neocons. For this reason, the Cheney crime family needs to be dislodged like the Bush crime family.

The Clinton crime family appears to be gone having been vanquished by Donald Trump in 2016. Donald Trump crushed the Clintons after he had crushed Jeb Bush in the Republican primaries earlier that year. Not too bad as Trump eliminated two crime families. Now it appears the Cheney crime family is being taken care of.

Only the Biden crime family has emerged unscathed. Fortunately, this appears to be a one term Presidency and the Bidens will have no political prospects when this one term is complete. The hypocrisy of the Democrats can be seen by the fact that they never tried to impeach Bush for the invasion of Iraq which was far worse than anything the Trump administration did. They also tried to impeach Trump nearly a year before the events at the capital last January.

If the Democrats were consistent they would be investigating Hunter Biden for his scandals. Consistency does not exist in politics. What distinguishes Donald Trump from the Bush, Cheney, Clinton, and Biden crime families is that he was and remains an outsider that was never part of the establishment.

Despite his flaws and mistakes, Donald Trump remains an alternative to the Democrats and the old Republican establishment. The recent tensions between the Biden administration and Russia indicates why Trump remains preferable to either the Democrats or the old Republicans. Elizabeth Cheney is a remnant of the war party in the Republican Party. Depriving her of any influence in the future of the party is a welcome development.

Secretary of State Anthony Blinken is presently in Ukraine. He is meeting with the unrecognized “bishop” Epithany Dimenko of the so called “Orthodox Church of Ukraine” (OCU). Reports do not indicate that he is planning to meet with Metropolitan Onuphry of the canonical Ukrainian Orthodox Church (UOC) which enjoys recognition from the free Orthodox Churches which have not been influenced by the State Department.

Here lies the root of the schism in Orthodoxy. The State Department claims to espouse religious freedom. The reasonable position to have taken in Ukraine would be to advocate that all Ukrainians should be free to go to whichever Church that they want to. Before September 2018 there were three choices Ukrainians had (discounting the Uniate Church which is in communion with Rome).

There was of course the canonical Ukrainian Orthodox Church which until September 2018 was recognized by the Ecumenical Patriarchate and the Church of Greece as the real Church in Ukraine. There were two schismatic Churches of dubious origin consisting of hierarchs and priests who were either anathematized by the real Church or whose ordinations and consecrations could not be considered valid because they were done outside the real Church. The responsible position by Washington would have been to condemn violence or force by all of the above and to respect the rights of Ukrainian citizens to make up their minds as to where they wanted to go.

But, the State Department did not take this position. Their claims to be supporting religious freedom are lies. The canonical Ukrainian Orthodox Church has been facing persecution by the Ukrainian government, by the schismatics (who merged into one church after the illegitimate council of December 2018 presided over by one of Patriarch Bartholomew’s hierarchs) and various Neo-Nazi militias. It has been a very ugly affair.

Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and “Ambassador” to Greece Geoffrey Pyatt openly intervened in ecclesiastical matters. They endorsed the OCU which consists of the merger of the above mentioned schismatic factions. This is not an advocacy of religious freedom. This is taking a position on what constitutes a canonical Orthodox Church.

The American constitution forbids the government from pronouncing on religious matters. But this is what State Department officials have done in Ukraine. They have joined the Ukrainian government of former President Poroshenko in deciding what constitutes an Orthodox Church. This is an outrageous and blasphemous assault on the Church of Christ by secular political interests.

Secretary of State Mike Pompeo flew to Greece during the fall of 2019 to ask Archbishop Ieronymos of Athens to recognize the OCU. Now, it must be said that the “bishops” of the OCU are not bishops or priests. They are laypeople because they were never ordained into the authentic Orthodox Church. Dressing like an Orthodox Bishop does not make one a bishop if he has not been ordained and consecrated into the real Church.

American officials have ridiculed Jesus Christ, the Apostles, and the fathers of the Church. The Orthodox Church considers itself to be the true Church of Christ. Orthodox ecclesiology originates the scriptures, canon law, and holy tradition. The Church is led by Christ himself. American officials had no business asking the Ecumenical Patriarch or the Church of Greece to recognize unordained lay people as a “church”.

This is the cause for the schism in the Orthodox Church. The Churches of Constantinople and Greece have been followed by the Patriarchate of Alexandria and the Archbishop of Cyprus in recognizing the OCU. The Church of Cyprus is especially divided as four bishops have publicly condemned the actions of their Archbishop.

The violence being directed at the canonical Orthodox Church whose priests and faithful are being beaten, and whose churches are being seized has not been condemned by the State Department. As a Greek, I am horrified and appalled by the way the Greek speaking Churches have bowed to the secular demands of the State Department.

Anthony Blinken is likely to continue the policies of his predecessor Mike Pompeo. This is disgraceful and dishonorable for the United States which is not supposed to make pronouncements on matters of religious doctrine. This entire affair is likely to destroy the legacy and reputation of Patriarch Bartholomew.

The reputation of the Church of Greece in Orthodoxy has also come to suffer considerably. May the risen Christ grant wisdom so that the Church may come together in an ecumenical council as is customary in Orthodoxy to repair this schism and to expel the enemies of God from his holy Church!

Former British Foreign Secretary Jack Straw has endorsed a two state solution for Cyprus which would effectively legitimize the Turkish aggression and ethnic cleansing of the occupied territories. In the mindset of this typical Englishman recognition of the occupied territories would settle the problem. Never mind the Republic of Cyprus and the interests of the Greek Cypriots.

The ex Foreign Secretary presumes that the Greeks on Cyprus are privileged because the Republic of Cyprus remains internationally recognized while the Turkish occupation is not. The typical racist mentality is at work in Straw who does not see the ethnic cleansing of over 200,000 Greek Cypriots and the massacres that were perpetrated by Turkish forces in 1974.

The British have never recognized their crimes against humanity that began in 1955 when George Grivas and the heroes of EOKA began the struggle for the freedom of Cyprus by seeking to achieve union with Greece. It should be remembered that Greek and Turkish Cypriots lived peacefully together at the time. It was the British who invited Turkey to make a claim on Cyprus, and together with Ankara armed the Turkish Cypriots who attacked the Greek Cypriots. The Greek Cypriots were fighting against the British, not the Turkish Cypriots.

The British have left behind misery and misfortune wherever their former Empire reigned. The Middle East is a perfect example. The British had promised Palestine to both the Jews and the Arabs during the First World War. The British left behind misery in India and what later became Pakistan.

The British should have no base in Cyprus. Cyprus should address the issue of the British base. The British legacy in Cyprus is one of evil and misery. Both Greece and Cyprus should ensure that the British will not be permitted to take part in any negotiations that have to do with the future of Cyprus.

Finally, the British are not alone in their hatred of the Greeks. The Germans continue to arm Turkey as Ankara threatens Greece. The traditional blindness that Greeks have had toward Europe has contributed to the present problems that both Athens and Nicosia face. The West is no friend to Greece and Greeks everywhere must accept this reality.

Aside from the British military presence in Cyprus, Nicosia needs to address the unscrupulous English thieves who have settled in the occupied territories of Cyprus over the years and who reside in the homes of Greeks who were forced to flee from their homes. Both Greece and Cyprus should be sending a warning to the British of diplomatic consequences in the event of any recognition of the occupied territories whatsoever.

The Biden administration has broken the President’s campaign promise to maintain an embargo on Azerbaijan. The United States is resuming sending military aid to Baku even after that country’s war of aggression against the Armenians of Artsakh. The recognition of the Armenian Genocide which initially was something to be applauded has been completely undermined as Azerbaijan is going to be receiving American aid.

This indicates that Biden was never serious about changing policies toward Turkey. Once again, the American foreign policy establishment has the upper hand. Azerbaijan is a Turkic Republic with genocidal ambitions and has the unconditional backing of Turkey. The threat to Armenia has increased.

Furthermore, the threat to Greece has also increased. Support for Azerbaijan equals support for Turkey. Biden is proving to be one more Democrat making promises to the Greeks and the Armenians that he does not keep.

President Joseph Biden has wished the Orthodox world happy Easter. This is reminiscent of President Bill Clinton’s wishing the Orthodox a Happy Easter in 1999 while bombing Serbia on Orthodox Easter. The Clinton administration subsequently forced Serbia to withdraw from Kosovo where the most holy Churches and Monasteries of the Serbian Orthodox Church are located.

Today, President Biden wishes us a happy Easter while the canonical Church of Ukraine is being fiercely persecuted and Churches are being seized by Neo-Nazi extremists and given over to the schismatic entity masquerading as a Church. Secretary of State Anthony Blinken is planning a visit to Ukraine where he plans to meet the fake Bishop that leads the fake Church. He apparently plans to talk against alleged Russian aggression.

American officials are talking out of both sides of their mouths. Their intervention in the affairs of the Churches of Constantinople and Greece has estranged both of these Churches from universal Orthodoxy. Shamelessly, the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese has celebrated Biden’s wishes.

The restoration of peace and unity within the Orthodox Church can only come under the following conditions. First, the American government must cease interfering in internal Church matters. Unfortunately, this appears to be a big hurdle to overcome. That is why the universal Orthodox Church is going to need to address the American problem at some time. It is widely known that American officials have caused the schism and surprisingly the local Orthodox Churches have not protested this blatant intervention in Church affairs.

Secondly, Patriarch Bartholomew will either have to completely reverse himself on the Ukrainian matter and his pretensions to authority over the whole of Orthodoxy or be deposed. The latter option will be the most likely one the longer this crisis drags on. It seems unlikely that disciplinary action can be taken against Patriarch Bartholomew as long as the American problem is not addressed.

The most promising road to the recovery of Orthodox unity comes from the Greek Orthodox Patriarchate of Jerusalem. Patriarch Theophilos of Jerusalem convened a council in Amman, Jordan in February 2020. He has recommended that a similar gathering be convened when it becomes possible for Orthodox primates to meet again.

For the time being it appears the Church schism will not be resolved. President Biden has previously taken a position favoring recognition of the Ukrainian pseudo-church. Those comments were completely out of order as Church matters are none of his concern.

Meanwhile, the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese with whom the President has a relationship with does not correct him on his mistakes. The Greek Orthodox Archdiocese, and by extension the Ecumenical Patriarchate has forfeited any claim to leadership considering they have chosen to rely on secular non Orthodox authorities to pursue their claims of authority over the Orthodox world.

Greeks should remember that Turkey continues to remain intransigent on Cyprus and intends to maintain the occupation of the island Republic. President Biden has done nothing to punish Turkey or to take action to restore the sovereignty of Cyprus. Nor has he proceeded to stop Turkish aggression against Greece. What a friend.

As Secretary of State Blinken precedes to meet with the Ukrainian pseudo bishops it is abundantly clear that the American foreign policy apparatus supports Constantinople only to pursue its anti Russian foreign policy. When the time comes, the Ecumenical Patriarchate and the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese will find themselves friendless in Washington and the Patriarchate will fend for itself in a hostile Turkey as it has for the past century.

It will do so without support from the Orthodox world which Constantinople has alienated.

Turkish Cypriot “leader” Ersin Tatar has rejected any deal on Cyprus that is not based on the occupied territories becoming a state. This is not surprising considering that Turkey has always demanded the partition of Cyprus. Mr. Tatar himself is not a real leader, but the representative of the Turkish government in Cyprus.

The United Nations Secretary General Antonio Guterres says he does not intend to give up. The Secretary General may be well intended but the fact is that Turkey and its puppet regime in the North of Cyprus have always refused to comply with United Nations Resolutions demanding the withdrawal of all Turkish troops and settlers. The problem has been that neither the United Nations nor any Government in the world has ever forced Turkey to comply with the Treaties of 1960 which established the Republic of Cyprus.

There really cannot be a change until there is a real commitment to forcing Turkey to comply with international law. In 1991, the first Bush administration went to war to force Iraq from Kuwait. The Clinton administration bombed Serbia during the 1990’s to force Belgrade to comply with western demands. Other cases could be cited in which the international community has been willing to force certain countries to comply with their demands.

It is not necessary to declare war on Turkey in order to liberate Cyprus. But there have to be means to punish Turkey for sustaining the occupation of Cyprus. Sanctions would be a legitimate start. Other measures intent on isolating Turkey could be imposed gradually.

There is no willingness to force Turkey to comply with international law and the norms of civilization. This has been the case since the formation of the Turkish Republic in 1923. Therefore, the United Nations and the powerful governments of the world are responsible for sustaining the Turkish occupation.

Cyprus must find means to liberate itself from the Turkish occupation. It certainly cannot depend on the so called civilized world. With the passing of time, it will become more difficult to reverse the occupation of Cyprus. This is what Turkey has been aiming for.

Both Cyprus and Greece need to demand from the United Nations that sanctions be imposed on Turkey. Ankara makes the decisions regarding occupied Cyprus. Cyprus should have ceased negotiating with officials of the Turkish occupation back in the days when Rauf Denktash served as Ankara’s man in the occupied territories.

Ersin Tatar says that is pointless to continue negotiating. In this, he is entirely correct but not in the way that he means. The Cypriots suffer a loss of dignity by sitting down with the representative of the Turkish Government who disguises himself as the leader of the Turkish Cypriot community. Cyprus should cease meeting with him and his associates and should isolate them much as Cyprus has worked to isolate the recognition of the occupied territories.

The Republic of Cyprus should demand from the United Nations that there must be no more contact with the occupied territories. They could then suggest that sanctions or penalties be enacted against Turkey. Perhaps the UN response will not be a positive one but at the very minimum what does Cyprus have to lose by hardening its position and refusing to meet with Turkey’s lackeys who have no intention of negotiating seriously?

It is time for an evaluation of the situation in Cyprus. There must be more effective ways for Cypriot leaders to work for the liberation of Cyprus than sitting down in useless negotiations with the occupiers. Nicosia should also consider the possibility of raising war crimes that were perpetrated by Turkish forces in Cyprus in 1974. They can ask interpol and the United Nations to actively pursue the murders who murdered Cypriot protesters Tasos Isaac and Solomos Solomou during the summer of 1996.

They should change their emphasis from useless negotiations to less ambitious but more aggressive goals in seeking to punish Turkey for war crimes and crimes against humanity. Cyprus should push the human rights angle among international organizations and governments more aggressively.

Secretary of State Anthony Blinken has begun the process of groveling before Turkish dictator Erdogan. In the aftermath of the Biden administration’s formal recognition of the Armenian Genocide, Blinken has stated that Biden does not blame Turkey for the Ottoman perpetrated genocide. The reality is that the Ottomans alone are not responsible for Genocide.

The Genocide of the Armenians, Greeks, and Assyrians began under the Ottomans but were completed in 1923 after the rise to power of the murderous Mustafa Kemal, the founder of the modern Turkish Republic. To suggest that modern Turkey in not complicit in Genocide is absolutely false and is demonstrative that the American foreign policy establishment is shamelessly groveling at the foot of the Turks.

Mustafa Kemal’s army systematically exterminated all Armenians, Greeks, and Assyrians in territories that came under its control. This is historical fact. It is also true that Kemalist Generals such as the notorious Noureddin Pasha were responsible for the indiscriminate slaughter of civilian populatins. It was Noureddin Pasha who presided over the burning and destruction of the City of Smyrna. It was Noureddin Pasha who handed over Greek Archbishop Chrysostom to the Turkish mobs to be butchered.

Even after the war ended, Kemal presided over the mass ethnic cleansing of well over one million ethnic Greeks from Asia Minor and Eastern Thrace. Previous to this, panic had struck the Christian populations of Constantinople when it was still under the control of the Great Powers. The Christians within the city had become aware of the slaughter at Smyrna and at least 300,000 or so Greeks fled Constantinople in the belief a repetition of the slaughter at Smyrna would occur within the City.

During the Second World War, the Turkish Government imposed harsh taxes on Greeks, Armenians, and Jews. When members of these communities could not pay they were deported into the interior of Anatolia from which they never returned. In September 1955, the Turkish Government organized the pogroms against the Greek population of Constantinople and within a decade most Greeks had been ethnically cleansed.

In 1974, came the Turkish invasions and ethnic cleansing of Cyprus. Between 1984 and 1999, the Turkish military destroyed over 3,000 Kurdish villages in a dirty war against the Kurds. To suggest that modern Turkey is not guilty of Genocide is inaccurate and highly offensive. The Turkish Republic was born in Genocide.

Under the Erdogan regime, Turkey supported the Islamic State. The Islamic State perpetrated Genocide against Yazidis, Christians, and Shi’ite Muslims. Turkey aligns itself with the perpetrators of Genocide.

The Secretary of State is an utterly contemptible individual as are all State Department officials attempting to whitewash Turkey’s history of Genocide. This puts the Biden recognition in an entirely different light. Regrettably, what should have been a real achievement and a hope for progress in holding Turkey accountable for its long list of crimes against humanity has been cheapened by a foreign policy establishment bending over backwards to appease the murderous Turkish Republic.

In the future, all efforts in obtaining recognition of the Genocides perpetrated by Turkey against Armenians, Assyrians, and Greeks should make it clear that the Turkish Republic is as much responsible for the extermination of Christians as the Ottoman Empire was.
