Congressman,
The following letter is intended to convey my opposition to the war on Iran. The Trump administration has ignored diplomacy to pursue another war in the Middle East which is bound to be worse than the war in Iraq. There is no justification for this war.
Nothing good came from the war in Iraq, and nothing good will come from this war. The reality is that Israel has an excessive influence on our foreign policy. I have been to Israel, and I happen to like Israel.
But the current government in Israel includes coalition partners who are every bit as fanatical as the Ayatollahs in Iran. The Trump administration includes officials such as Mike Huckabee as Ambassador to Israel who promotes his own religious beliefs as if they are American foreign policy. As a Greek Orthodox Christian who totally rejects the Ambassador’s view of the Bible, I find this offensive.
The Trump administration is pursuing a war based on the religious views of certain Evangelicals (not all of them) who can be properly viewed as a cult. Such individuals which include the Senator Lindsay Graham favor a war based not on the country’s interests but on their own religious views which the overwhelming majority of Christians worldwide
(Especially the Middle East) reject.
Both Iran and Israel have religious extremists in their governments. The US should not allow its own fanatics to influence American foreign policy. Congress should refuse to support this war and impeachment of the President should be taken into consideration.

Greece And Israel
The relationship between Greece and Israel has been warming up due to Turkey’s increasing hostility to Israel. This Leaves Greece with a dilemma. Greece needs Allies to survive in light of threats emanating to Greece’s territorial integrity from Ankara.
Yet, Israel is complicit in genocide in Gaza and is pursuing a policy of war on Iran. Greece has no interest in getting into a war with other Muslim states. Israel has a right to exist and to survive .
Friendship between Greece and Israel is welcome. What remains is for Greece to formally define its own national interests and what it hopes to gain from an alliance with Israel. A delicate balancing act is required.
One can respect Israel while disagreeing with its current policies. Greece’s interests with Israel should be long term and not dependent on the current right wing coalition in Israel. Greece has to distance itself from Gaza and any attack on Iran. Greece’s interests remain against Turkey which remains a serious military threat to the existence of Greece.
Athens must also take into consideration what happened to Armenia after the genocide from Azerbaijan. Azerbaijan’s genocide of the Armenians was backed by Turkey and Israel. This is a paradox considering the hostility between Turkey and Israel but who are on the same side against Armenia.
Turkey has been able to play its cards well. Greece nowhere near as effectively. Greece had to keep all options open and take a wait and see attitude. Friendship with Israel and its people is desirable. But no support for some of Israel’s current policies.
British Columbia School Shooting
The latest school shooting to make headlines was carried out by a an eighteen year old man who considered himself “trans”. Most of the media is leaving this detail out. The media is referring to the shooter as female. The shooting occurred in British Columbia.
All school and other mass shootings are evil and deserve condemnation. But shooters from “trans” individuals are becoming increasingly common. In 2023, a school shooting at an Evangelical school in Tennessee was carried out by a female who “transitioned” into a male. More recently, a Roman Catholic school in Minneapolis was attacked by another “trans” shooter.
The believers in transgenderism have gone from demanding both their own and other people’s children be declared as the opposite sex to murdering people. Children are being indoctrinated in this and many have been taken from their families. In instances, where parents disagree courts of law have stripped religious or conservative parents of custody of their kids for opposing their “transition”.
Now we are seeing these individuals acting out violently and murdering people. The “trans” movement is a cult and has been and continues to be nurtured by the Democratic Party and “mainstream” media. The western world has a serious moral problem that needs addressing.
Unfortunately, the medical and psychiatric professions together with the schools and the judicial system are dominated by “ woke” ideology and their refusal to adhere to both reality and conventional morality contributes to this growing problem.
NO WAR WITH IRAN!
The Trump administration appears to be sending an aircraft carrier to the Middle East. This is an appalling betrayal of Trump’s America first agenda. War with Iran will be even more disastrous than the war in Iraq. Iran is more stable and and is a much bigger country than Iraq.
Iraq was fractured by sectarianism (Kurds, Sunnis, Shiites). Iran is going to be much tougher to defeat. If there is anything last summer’s bombing of Iran by Israel and the US proved is that the neoconservatives dictate policy. Trump can still do the right thing and show restraint.
Attacking Iran is a dangerous escalation and is immoral. In the aftermath of the genocide in Gaza and the ruins of Syria, western aggression at the bid of the neoconservatives is as ambitious as it was under Bush-Cheney. There is no way that any of this ends well. This blogger supported Trump largely to avoid these wars.
It appears once again that an elected President has chosen to follow the dictates of the unelected think tanks and ideologues who remain in positions of influence. They led Clinton to bomb Serbia, Bush to invade Iraq, Obama to overthrow Khaddafi and intervene in Syria, and Biden to surround Russia in Ukraine. None of the above turned out well. Trump is just another dupe doing what he is told to do. He is doing what the people who always loathed him advised him to do.
The Crusades are set to resume.
Halki Reopening?
Reports over the last couple of months indicate the theological school of Halki will reopen in 2026. Such news would have thrilled this blogger once upon a time. The problem is the Ecumenical Patriarchate has created more problems for itself and Orthodoxy than the Turks.
The Ukrainian Orthodox Church continues to be fiercely persecuted by the government in Kiev. The Ecumenical Patriarchate’s recognition of the pseudo church of unordained and defrocked clergy contributed to the persecution. The Patriarchate must reverse itself and declare that Ukraine is outside its ecclesial borders. And should condemn the persecution.
Until the schism with the Russian Church is healed, and until the persecution in Ukraine ends the Patriarchate will be permanently isolated and its demise likely even with the opening of Halki. The Church of Constantinople has made errors in its history and has always come back. It is necessary again for the Patriarchate to correct itself.
Greek Icons And The Courts
An atheist group in Greece is suing to remove icons from court rooms on the grounds that they represent a bias against the non religious who appear in court. The group has appealed to the European Court On Hunan Rights. The Greek government appears to be fighting it.
As the government should. The Greek legal system runs on civil law, not religious law. The presence of icons reflects the Greek nations Orthodox faith and history. This is not a theocracy.
As in the United States, secular groups simply want to impose their views on the rest of society. Atheists have the right to their beliefs but tolerance is a two way street. Most Greeks are Orthodox and Orthodoxy has played a role in shaping Greek history. The atheists should be ignored.
